Adult Water Exercise

The Kirksey Recreation Center offers many water exercise classes on convenient days and times. Sign up for a daytime class and take advantage of our matinée prices.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Most classes are 50 to 60 minutes and meet once a week. Please note that some classes may change from session to session. For an up-to-date listing of class fees, days and times, please check out the Aquatics section in the most current issue of our Connections magazine.

Drop-In Water Aerobics Fees

Do you prefer a variety in your workouts? Perhaps your schedule varies weekly? Our Drop-In classes will work out perfectly. Note: two drop-in wristbands are required for classes 75 minutes or more in length.

Drop-ins are welcome as long as space is available in class. Check with our front desk at (734) 466-2900 to make sure space is available prior to drop-in.

Important Aquatic Area Rules

  • Youths 14 and under must be directly supervised by a responsible person at least 16 years of age. Non-swimmers must have an adult in the pool within arm's reach at all times.
  • Avoid water activities if you have had diarrhea or contagious disease in the past two weeks.
  • Showers are required before entering the pool.
  • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a reusable or disposable swim diaper under a lined swimsuit. 
  • An appropriate lined bathing suit is required for swimming. Please, no t-shirts or street clothes in the water.
  • Lazy River users under 48 inches tall must be accompanied by a parent or responsible person at least 16 years old.
  • Lap Swim -You may need to share your lane with other swimmers. Remember to circle swim, always staying to the right side.
  • Only life jackets or flotation devices built into the bathing suit are allowed (non-inflatable). The use of these items requires a parent/guardian to be within arms reach of the youth at all times. Toys may not be brought into or used in the pools.
  • Food/drink is not permitted in the pool area. Plastic water bottles only. Gum is prohibited.

Adult Water Exercise Class Descriptions

AQUAFIT DEEP WATER EXERCISE

A refreshing total body workout that is equal to an hour-long aerobic class at the studio. Get the same great results with a zero-impact workout, sculpting the upper and lower body, and abs and glutes. Class uses web gloves and noodles to achieve results. All ability levels welcome. Water jogging belt available.

AQUAFIT RIVER AND TONE

A refreshing total body workout that will strengthen, sculpt, and tone your entire body without the sweat. Equipment such as aqua water weights, web gloves, exertubes and noodles will be used. All participants must wear water shoes to class.

AQUAFIT YOGA AND TONE

This refreshing and effective class adapts traditional yoga poses to an aquatic environment, releasing stress and tension from joints offering increased flexibility, strength and body tone. There are also cardiovascular benefits to the workout through the use of barbells and water resistance. Yoga has been known to decrease stress, blood pressure and fatigue while also fighting depression, which grants a more positive outlook on life and a more peaceful disposition. Equipment will include noodles and aqua belts.

ARTHRITIC H20

Warm water (83°- 85°), easy to follow workout, caring instructor. Find relief, energy, flexibility and well-being. Arthritis Certified Instructor. No equipment used, water shoes are recommended.

BEGINNER WATER EXERCISE

Come join us as we work out using Hydro-fit barbells to tone and shape your entire body and improve balance, strength and flexibility. Class will also include river walking and end with Yoga-type stretches. All participants required to wear water shoes.

BEST WATER WORKOUT

Get ready for this 60-minute total body water workout! You’ll begin in the lap pool enjoying 30 minutes of calorie-burning cardio workout while using the Aqua Flotation Belt, which will keep you afloat as you condition your heart and burn calories. Then move to the leisure pool for an additional 30 minutes of toning and strengthening using Hydro-Fit equipment, working on abs, glutes, thighs and legs. Swim ability is not necessary for this class. Class format may vary. See results!

ENERGIZING WATER EXERCISE

Are you ready for some great low-impact water exercise? We will stretch, strengthen and do cardio with a variety of exercises and equipment ranging from low to moderate intensity.

WATER FITNESS

Come join us for a fun workout in the pool, that is designed to improve range of motion, strength, and muscle tone. The water will help soften the impact to your body, part of the class will be in the river to help with resistence, the other part will be in the leisure pool.
