[ARCHIVED] Livonia Lead Action Level Exceedance

2024-10-9 Press Release Livonia Lead Action Level Exceedance Page 1

The City of Livonia conducts annual testing of tap water in homes for lead and copper. During our testing, we collected samples from 30 of the 67 homes known to have lead service lines. Four of the homes were found to exceed the acceptable level of lead, which is 15 parts per billion. When this happens, communities are instructed by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to provide a public notice, begin educational outreach, provide sampling every six months, and provide service line replacement.

The City of Livonia is beginning this process in conjunction with EGLE. We are committed to helping residents maintain quality drinking water. Livonia’s water source does not contain lead. However, lead service lines can be a source of lead. While we know of 67 homes with lead service lines, we are trying to identify all lead service lines and change them out. We know the type of water service lines at 15,563 homes. Identifying the material of service lines for the other 23,428 water service lines is our goal. If you are a Livonia residential water customer, please visit CheckYourPipesLivonia.org. There you can find instructions on how to determine the material of your water service line. You can also make an appointment to have a City representative come to your home for an assessment. You can also contact the Department of Public Works by calling (734) 466-2019.
