Plymouth Road Development Authority

City of Livonia

Changing the Way You See Plymouth Road

In its early history, Plymouth Road supported an airport and many of the first businesses that claimed Livonia as their home base.  Due to the conditions that existed at that time, businesses were placed in a variety of setbacks from the road and each had its own driveway and unique parking.  This was fine in its day, but did not lend itself to the best aesthetic appearance or the safest traffic conditions.

Realizing that much should and could be done to enhance the appearance and improve the safety of Plymouth Road, and because the opportunity was available to finance such a program, the City Administration in 1993 authorized the establishment of the
Plymouth Road Development Authority.  The PRDA was empowered to plan the modifications and enhancements desired, hire the architects to draw up the specific details, select the contractors to perform the work and then maintain these new enhancements.

Plymouth Road Development Authority encompasses the entire length of Plymouth Rd. from Inkster to Ann Arbor Roads and is home to many major manufacturing facilities and offices such as Roush Industries, A123 Systems, Inc., NYX, Inc. and Ford Motor Company just to name a few.  The Plymouth Road district is a business friendly community with convenient access to I-96 and I-275 as well as the CSX Railroad.  Plymouth Road is positioned on the southern border of Livonia's six square mile Industrial Corridor consisting of over 30 Million square feet of industrial space.  The south side of the street is all commercial and retail businesses with some of Livonia's most picturesque older neighborhoods located just behind the business corridor.

With historic looking street lights, beautifully landscaped intersections, plus brick and iron fencing along the street, the entire corridor flows together to create an atmosphere conducive for business and pleasant for visitors.

Our Mission
The purpose of the
Plymouth Road Development Plan and Tax Increment Financing Plan was to establish a structure and strategy to address problems of urban decline, to strengthen existing commercial areas, and to encourage private investment and development within the Plymouth Road Development Authority district.  The plan provided a broad based development concept which acknowledges the influence and importance of vehicular traffic within the overall Plymouth Road Development Area District.
