Workforce Instructor of the Year 2018...Tim Martin, of the Livonia Career Technical Center!
Congratulations to Tim Martin, Instructor of the Construction Trades 1 & 2 Courses for the Livonia Career Technical Center, for his recognition as “Workforce Instructor of the Year” and for his leadership and commitment to the industry, his students, and to his community.
The Livonia Public Schools has been partnering with the City of Livonia Housing Department, and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, since 2009, to fully remodel 1 to 2 homes per year in the city. According to the December 2018, article in BUILDING Business & Apartment Management, Tim has high hopes for his students to become the carpenters, plumbers, electricians, construction managers or any number of trades that will build the new homes and infrastructure of the future. The Greenleaf Commission on Sustainability and the Livonia Chamber of Commerce will award its fifth annual City of Livonia Greenleaf Award. The goal of the Greenleaf Award is to recognize businesses or volunteer organizations that have demonstrated leadership in making Livonia a resilient and sustainable community. Awards will be presented at the Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership and Awards Celebration in February 2019.

Accenture opens innovation hub in Livonia
Accenture is making headlines with plans to expand Industry X.O capabilities with two acquisitions in North America, Mindtribe and Pillar Technology. Mindtribe is a hardware engineering firm and Pillar Technology is a smart embedded software company.
According to the recent press release, Pillar's 320 employees and Mindtribe's 40 will work together to create, prototype and launch smart products. The parent company opened a 10,000 square foot Livonia Industry X.O Innovation Center earlier this summer, complete with labs and demo rooms, to help bring its clients into the digital world.

Infineon awarded grant dollars for expansion in Livonia!
Infineon Technologies Corp. is a subsidiary of Infineon Technologies AG, a German semiconductor manufacturer founded in 1999. The company manufactures power semiconductors that convert raw power from an electrical outlet, battery, alternator, hybrid electric vehicle or electric vehicle, or renewable energy source.
Infineon is expanding into the connected and autonomous vehicle space based on the need for diversification and customer demand. The company plans to expand its existing facility in the City of Livonia, investing $1.55 million and creating 25 jobs. As a result of the expansion, the company has been awarded a $200,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over competing sites in California, Japan and Europe. The City of Livonia has offered to support the project with recruitment efforts. Livonia's 48154 ranks second in the nation! Realtor.com®, a leading online real estate destination, announced its third annual list of Hottest ZIP Codes in America, which illustrates the power of millennial gravitation toward affordable suburbs with local "it" factors. They analyzed 32,000 ZIP codes based on the time it takes properties to sell and how frequently homes are viewed in each ZIP code. The top 10 hottest markets sold in an average of 21-50 days faster than in the rest of the country.
According to Realtor.com®, the key factors used to determine the top 10 hottest real estate markets:
1. Relative affordability
2. Large shares of older millennials
