Fall Flea Market Bringing Unique Shopping to Greenmead Sunday

The Fall Flea Market is back at Greenmead Historical Park 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. Bring your wagon or cart to shop from more than 160 vendors offering a wide variety of items for sale. You never know what you'll find!

No dogs are permitted at the event. $3 adult admission paid at the gate; free for ages 11 and younger.

Whether you want to make music or listen to it, we've got chances for you to do both this week.

The Livonia Civic Chorus is looking for a few good men and women to exercise their vocal cords for the group’s 58th season. Rehearsals begin 7-9 p.m. tonight, Sept. 6, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church (34567 Seven Mile Road). Visit LivoniaCivicChorus.org for more information.

The Music From the Heart concert series isn't done for the season yet either, as we’re bringing back Steve King and the Dittilies to the east lawn of the Kirksey Recreation Center 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, after their Aug. 4 show was stormed out.

Fingerprint Scanner to Phase Out New Membership Cards at The Rec

On Sept. 6, 2022, the Kirksey Recreation Center began the process to phase out membership cards for entry and instead use Rec Tag. Rec Tag helps to facilitate ease of entry into our facilities and helps prevent fraud. In order to use Rec Tag, you simply place your finger on a reader. The system, which utilizes the technology of biometrics, takes an image of your finger, converts the image into a unique numerical value, and immediately discards the image. The numerical value is recalled when you use Rec Tag to enter the Recreation Center. Rec Tag does not store fingerprints.

Members with existing cards will be able to scan their card or switch to Rec Tag. We are no longer printing membership cards. If you don’t want to use Rec Tag, you can simply carry and show a photo ID that matches the name identified with your membership. We've got a handful of opportunities coming up that will make crafters of all ages happy. Sign up now to reserve your spot for these programs:

Grandparent's Day Giftmaking - Bring out your 2-13 year old anytime 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, and craft a special project for Grandparent's Day Sept. 11.
Secluded Saturdays - Ages 15 and older can come to a hideaway at the Civic Park Senior Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, and other monthly dates this fall to work on crafts for up to eight hours. Bring your project and we'll provide tables, chairs, morning coffee and doughnuts, and lunch, to help you bust through eight hours of pure crafting bliss.
KidCreate Studio - A variety of single-day and multi-week classes for either ages 18 months-6 years or 5-12 years. Check out options 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 19-Oct. 10; 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 28-Oct. 19; or 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24.
Creative Nature Art and Design - Get your 7-14 year old going with a Harry Potter-themed art project 1:30-3 p.m. any Sunday in October (excluding Oct. 9).
