Disabled/ADA Riders

Disabled persons, under the American Disabilities Act (ADA), need to be certified before they will be allowed to schedule rides with Livonia Community Transit.  The application process is necessary to determine eligibility.  Evaluation of your request cannot begin until the form is completed and returned to the Livonia Community Transit office.  Once the application has been received, a determination will be made within 21 days.

Caretakers
A caretaker, at no charge, must be present for assistance when clients are not able to travel or board the bus on their own.  If it's learned that the client can manage by themselves, full fare will be charged to the caretakers.

Mobility Devices
Because the size and type of mobility devices can vary and may even exceed the dimensions of a common wheelchair, you should contact LCT before making a reservation to see if your device can be accommodated. 

  • Wheelchairs.  Livonia Community Transit requires that passengers riding in wheelchairs must be strapped in and the chair secured to the floor.  Wheelchairs must have foot rests and wheel locks.
  • Motorized Scooters.  For safety reasons, Livonia Community Transit asks that passengers riding in motorized scooters transfer to a regular bus seat when being transported.  

SMART ADA Service Area
The SMART Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit service area is the corridor located within three-quarters (3/4) of a mile of each side of a Fixed Route.  SMART provides service to any origin or destination within the service area if the Fixed Route bus provides that same trip.  This does not mean that you must live within the service area in order to be eligible.  If you live outside the service area and can find a way of getting to a pick-up location within the service area, SMART will pick you up from there.  The same holds true at the destination end of the trip.  Call SMART for more information at 888-962-5515. Click here to go to SMART's website.
