WINTER STORM WARNING

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow.  The warning is in effect until 10:00am Wednesday.  Snow is spreading north into SE Michigan and will become heavier overnight.  Total snowfall accumulations by Wednesday morning are expected to range from 5 to 9 inches.  Winds will increase from Tuesday night into Wednesday with sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts to 30 mph contributing to blowing and drifting snow conditions.

Conditions will be continually monitored by DPW personnel and a snow emergency, if necessary, will likely be declared Tuesday night.  A snow emergency will require that parked vehicles be removed from roadways until the street has been plowed.  Please remove parked vehicles from snow routes today and plan to remove all parked vehicles on all other streets by early Wednesday morning.  If necessary, City-wide snow plowing would begin at the end of the snowfall which is anticipated to be mid-to-late morning on Wednesday.  Vehicles not removed from the roadway after declaration of a snow emergency will be subject to ticketing and/or towing.

Information regarding the declaration of a snow emergency, if necessary, will be available on this website, Livonia TV on Brighthouse Cable Channel 8 and U-Verse Channel 99, Livonia Emergency Radio 1670AM, WWJ Radio 950AM, WJR Radio 760AM and local television new broadcasts including WJBK Fox-2, WDIV-4 and WXYZ-7.  Sign up for snow emergency e-mail alerts on the right side of this webpage - Snow Emergency Notify link.

This storm is creating snow covered and slippery roads which will effect the evening commute.  The first snow and ice control priority in Livonia is maintaining the 24/7, around the clock main roads, which include Schoolcraft, Newburgh, Ann Arbor Trail, Levan and major half-mile streets.  The second priority includes other half-mile streets, neighborhood routes and industrial routes.  Livonia DPW - (734) 466-2655
